Out of this world fishing trip!

My daughters have been hounding me about going on a vacation. I asked them where they would like to go and the only response I ever got was some place different. I did a little research and found you could go to outer space w a Russian airline. Originally, it was going to be too expensive, and I thought the trip was not going to come together. However, I checked priceline and got a great quote on a package deal to planet Gliese 581d.

I picked this planet because I heard they have some outstanding fishing there and the weather was quite manageable if you went this time of year. The travel agent did warn me about about getting some SPF 30 space block, but I forgot as you can see from the pics. I here the 'green burn' wears off after being home a few weeks though. Man I hope so!

My wife and daughters started day one off w a trip to the space zoo. They really enjoyed feeding the space dragon. It was similar to the tarpon thing down in Islamorada.  I cannot believe my wife paid 12 american dollars for a small bag of space pilchards though. Come on honey, dont you know we're in a recession.

I had planned ahead and the weather was great for my offshore trip w 'ET Charters'. The mate was pretty good looking for an alien, but something about those big hands turned me off. She pulled the bait out of the tub and I didnt know what to expect.

It was all cool though when the first  tentacle down got inhaled by this beast. I noticed everyone that was using that red cajun thunder line got a lot more hits than regular mono.

I wanted to have the meat shipped home, but the captain informed me that "Green Sea Maggots" usually have a lot of worms in them.

Day two we headed N for a little river fishing. It was a lot colder here than the offshore trip, but I dressed appropriately. Fishing was just getting good when a couple of local aliens accused me of hole jumping and told me to go back where I came from. Oh well, at least I caught a nice one before they ran me off.

Day three was one of those personal days. I brought my travel rod w me and was excited about throwing some flies or 'spacebugs' on the fly rod behind the resort. There were a lot of fish on the glow flat, but i just couldnt get them to eat the spacebug patterns I was using. Luckily for me another guy came wading by and offered me one of his secret bugs. He said these things were deadly on this particular glow flat. A few casts later Bamn! Fish on! What a way to end a trip.

mike h - 11/14/2009: Love the steelies. Did a 5 day float last fall for the steelie run from Medford OR to Gold Beach 20 steelies per boat per day!!! Great time. If you want to catch some great wild Bows check out Lees Ferry Arizona... Great Fishing. I just relocated here to Tampa and am just getting used to the saltwater. Getting ready to bust out the flyrods though
