Captain Matt Ercoil has been a 100% fulltime Charter Captain in Tampa Bay for 15 years. Starting at age 20 it was his first and only job other than working on his grandparent's farm as a kid. He is on the water over two hundred days a year aboard his 24ft sheaffer custom tower boat, ensuring his customers he knows where the fish are. Captain Matt is a light tackle, heavy tackle and fly specialist. Whether it's high flying tarpon, shallow water snook or 400 pound gothiath grouper he is prepared.
Captain Matt leaves from two pick up spots the kingfish boat ramp or his personal residence on the the beautiful island of Anna Maria. From his home you are literally 5 min. to some of the world best tarpon fishing, excellent flats fishing for snook and redfish. His home is also right around the bend from the open gulf and great offshore fishing.
Captain Matt's light tackle flats charters catch snook, redfish, trout, snapper, sheepshead, black drum, cobia, mackerel, ladyfish and jacks. These trips are great for people of all ages and skill levels. His offshore trips target grouper, snapper, kingfish, permit, tuna, amberjack, cobia, sharks and goliath grouper up to 500 pounds. The captain also loves fly fishing. He ties all off his own fly for his charters and catches everything that swims on the fly. His favorite species to catch on the fly are tarpon, snook, kingfish, tunny, and permit. They are great fighters and good targets for his fly fisherman. Tarpon are also a big attraction in this area especially during the peak months, May through July. Capt Matt spends the three peek months of tarpon doing almost nothing but chase and battle the silver king and has a near 100 % hook up rate over the last 10 years. |
Captain Matt's Charters provide everything. The only thing you need to bring is whatever you like to eat and drink, sunglasses, a hat and whatever else you may like to bring. Although a cooler and ice is provided on the boat you may want to bring you own along for the fish the captain fillets at the end of the day.
