| The fishing is starting to pick up lately. All fish are biting right now if you ask me, but the most common are trout, grouper, sheepshead, and some snapper.
The sheepshead are the winter species that I usually target. I have been getting some aroung rock structures such as jettys and also of course pillings. My preffered Sheepshead setup at the moment is, A light rod spooled with 15 pound braided test, a 35 pound test monifilament leader, a No. 2 hook, 3/4 ounce sinker, and barnacles, sand fleas, and crabs (from fiddler to a small blue).
I do not prefer to use shrimp because of the dreaded pinfish, but on a cold day i might try them.
The hard striking and tough fighting snapper are biting pretty well. I am musing just the tentacles of frozen/thawed squid and small shrimp. Snapper fishing may be frustrating because of those horrible pinfish. I have been catching them on No.1 hooks with the bait talked about in the 7 to 14 in. range. But if you put in the time you will have a pretty big fish fry.
Trout, Trout, and Trout. Silver and Speckled they are biting. Topwater and live baits. Right now ive been catching the bigger ones on greenbacks and shrimp, but the monsters on topwaters. Gulp! is catching the smaller ones but its still fun. The new penny and glow are catching the legals. Try the rootbeer because i caught a 28 in. on it.
Grouper, what a tasty fish! TBC i tried that recipe and Oh My Gosh is all i have to say. Easy and amazing is all i have to say. But anyways They are being caught on No.5 hooks with a threadfin or greenback on. Inshore is producing small ones in the 10-18 in. range. But near and offshore has been producing mosters. For a great dinner after a good day of fishing look at TBC's video for stuffed grouper.
Well the Pomps, Blues, Reds, and snook have all been pretty slow for me. Not sure about you but all of these fish that i have caught have been of the beaches and piers. Ive been using pompano jigs, Redfish magics, Spoons, and Threadfins, Mullet, and Greenbacks.
Hope you enjoyed
