On the inshore scene, redfish have been taking center stage for me. Plenty of tailing fish in the usual places during extreme low tides and a good bite on the last of the incoming into the beginning of the outgoing. Big shrimp are still catching their share, but its been 3-5 inch whitebait that has been doing the most damage for me.

Mixed in with the reds have been some really nice snook and some big speckled trout. Mirr-O-Lure She Pup in chrome/bone has been my go to top water bait and the DOA Cal 5.5" jerkbait in red/gold rigged weedless has produces well for me too.

The spanish mackerel have been showing up in good numbers right on schedule. The Skyway area and the beaches have been the areas to target. Anchored up with a chum bag and live bait has been deadly for the spannies as well as casting or throwing spoons.

Right on the heels of the spanish there have been their cousins the king mackerel. Slow trolled live bait is always a good way to get on a smoker, but trolling king spoons or lipped plugs will also net some kings. Target areas of hard bottom, wrecks or anywhere you see lots of bait.

Spring is finally here. Look for the fishing to really heat up as the water temps start to climb into the 70's and up. Before you know it, it will be summer and we all know what that means...TARPON!!!
