Monday night, I didnt have anything planned for tuesday, so I wanted to take the boat out for some kings. My dad vetoed, due to the boat being on the trailer still. I called up Joe at 10:30 monday night(0and2) to see if he was heading out tuesday, he was game and kyle of course was game!

We got out at about 10am, I had a orthodonic appointment that morning. Caught about 1 and a half dozen baits. (Rushing to get out for the bite) Headed out of JP, at our first spot we deployed 2 threadfins, a runner, and a mack flat lined. We didnt bring the downriggers, so none down deep. Right off the bat, a screaming Torium goes off, jake grabs the rod and brings in a teenager king. He gaffed the fish himself, his first gaff ever!

After a good start, busting kings behind the boat was a good sign, but the bite wasn't there. After trolling crab pots for 2 hours we had only a couple of big spanish in the boat along with the snake king.

The bite seemed to shut down, all of us agreed it was time to move. Reeling in all 4 lines, I grab the Spheros, tightened the drag and reeled the 3" threadfin in. As I was reeling in the bait, I feel a solid thump! "Do I have a fish?","I do!" Took an initial 100 yd run. Got all lines in and went to the bow. After fighting 1 million mid 20's this past SKA tournament last weekend, it felt like a mid 20 to me. I started to pump to get the fish in (A BIG NO NO), I fought it like a small fish.

All the way in, I thought it was a 25 lb fish, after looking at it's back. I told Joe that I wanted to gaff it (Ive only gaffed one fish in my whole life before this one). As the fight went on I still thought it was a 25#'er. After a 5 minute fight I gave the rod to Joe so I could gaff her. The fish rolled on it's side, my eyes started to look like this.... .....I went behind the line and sunk the metal into her shoulders and dropped her on the deck! We went ecstatic, on the boga it was 40 lbs. My biggest king to date, beating my 36.90# at KOTB. I was &^%$&^% pizzed off though, where was this fish last weekend in NAPLES!!!!?

I'm a fairly new fisherman and am not sure where the best place to troll for king is -- any tips? I've been driving an 1hr to Oneils Marina and trolling around the skyway and a few of the bouys but what other places would be good? Also, are there any places to lauch that would be closer to these areas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
