Got an invite from Jack and Nick Wednesday (two of my fishing guru's) but had to skip both even though I haven't been out in forever... messed up my back a bit on the roof earlier in the week At any rate, Nick slayed the kings and Jack slayed the grouper. Nick went home with their limit and tossed back a bunch of schoolies and Jack had a day.
He and Don, a good friend and a great mechanic, were on em'. Had to stop by last night and have a look. The pictures don't do them justice but I'm sure you'll get the idea. It's an invite that I think I'll not skip again, regardless of the back. (smiley here)
Hearing the news, and with Nick's endless patience, he and I decided to give it a go yesterday. Figured he was catching Kings but no keeper grouper in 50' and Jack was tied into the grouper at 40', we'd work our way out focusing on the bottom but keeping a flat line and a chum block out.
Had some sardines and got a few pins, a few white bait and a ton of greenies and a bunch of blue runners at the skyway on the way out. Tried a few of the usual spots on the way but didn't pick anything up anything else. We were on the grouper all day, in 38' to 52' but managed only two keepers. The big surprise was coming home without a hit on the flat lines. Saw a couple of kings skying off the stern but none fancied our whitebait or blue runners. Slow trolled some hard bottom on the way back in but still no takers. Had a great day, with a good friend and took a tip from his book when we got home. Cleaned the fish, cleaned up and went by the supermarket and picked up some goodies. The kids had hamburgers but the wife and I had "Florida Surf and Turf". Grouper (that had been swimming in the morning), broiled in lemon, butter and garlic, grilled NY Strip, black beans & rice with a cesar salad and garlic bread. I got the chance to play around with the new camera a bit and Nick worked on getting the new Lowrance dialed in. The back held out, even though it's not feeling so great today but it was definitely worth nursing it for a couple of more days. A couple of test pics with the new camera. We were running on plane in some pretty good slop and I hadn't tried it before so I was kinda surprised they came out as good as they did even though I've got some more playing to do (apperature and shutter spead at least)
