| I am thinking about making a trip out to the skyway pier, I havent been before and don't know what to expect. I will probably wait till the moon gets full before I drive on out there. Is there any type of tackle I should look for in specific and what bait to buy that the fish bite in particular? I am looking to catch anything that is worth taking home. Also what are some of the better spots on the pier, any place in particular I should try out?
Thanks

Location: Pinellas Point | Eli, Big Mike is the resident expert... and I do mean resident expert. He's the big dude at The Skyway Bait and Tackle and hopefully he'll chime in. There's structure all around there but I'm guessing you'd have to spend some time to locate the prime spots. With the macks around though I doubt you could go wrong around the end at either side with some live bait and maybe even drop a chum block. I'd probably do that with one rod and a free lined or ballooned live sardine and fish another rod straight down with cut shrimp for sheepshead and mangrove snapper. We plan on taking the shorties out there for a day of fishing but just haven't been able to work around the weekend conflicts with their activities yet. It might not get any better before baseball season ends so I'll be looking forward to hearing how you did if you go.

Location: Pinellas Point | Good luck, it couldn't hurt to give Big Mike a shout in the bait shop before you get started Tell him TBC sent ya... and then to maybe just target one species (with the one rod). If they've been getting the macks I'd bring a rope for a chum block and have some stinger rigs ready. Good luck and be sure to let us what you did and how you did.

Location: Palmetto/Bradenton | There were multiple hook ups with Tarpon this week, and should get better with hill tides coming up. The mackeral have been thick, and if you can get them chummed up you never know what else might come to your slick, kingfish, cobia, shark, tarpon, grouper, and snapper. try chumming as much as you can that will get attention from fish in your area that are otherwise not interested. Good luck out there. ----- http://www.FishingEscapeCharters.com | |
