I have had an itch to get out and do some Tarpon fishing on a week day but needed a crew I was able to put one together with a friend of mine Joe and ABSam. This was Joes first time Poon fishing so I was eager to see him hooked up. We left our launch at noon and stopped to pick up a few pinfish off the flats to do some shallow water grouper fishing first. We ended up boating 3 just undersized Gags before we headed to the pass to find a poon. We got there and the tide was flushing but the crabs were slim pickings. We got enough to fish with and on our first drift we hooked up! I passed the rod to Joe and the battle was on.It took longer than I would of liked but Joe landed a nice Poon just under 100 lbs.Not to bad for his first time. After a few high fives and a break for Joe we were off. We set up another drift and then another and another but we missed the good bite.We did manage to pick up a couple of fat over sized Reds as a Bi-catch. Sorry no pics I still cant figure out how to post them. ----- Capt. Steve Betz
