   Fishing The Tampa Bay Area -> General Discussion

Just joined the forum in hopes I can get some opinions. I'm planning on making a trip out there this weekend. I'm wondering what artificial bait might work best?

I've got a couple spoons, DOA shrimp and DOA crab and a Gotcha plug. This will be my first time fishing from the pier and first time using lures.

I'm planning on buying live shrimp but wanted to try lures.

I've only fished the piers a couple of time but have had a whole lot better luck with live bait... and then with sardines as opposed to shrimp. There have been some reports of good sized mackerel being caught out there recently so you might stick with the spoons and gotcha plug to give them a go.

And... welcome to the forum!

P.S. anytime I've tried gulp out there they've just gotten torn up by the pin fish.

Location: Palmetto/Bradenton		If you use a chum bag you can chum up some mackeral, snapper, and some grouper from some of the structure outlining the pier in certain areas. The rule of the game is who ever has the most chum wins and it may take some time and getting to know areas that hold fish. Good luck!!
