Inshore Fishing has mainly consisted of Trout, Sheepshead, and Redfish, but it is slowly becoming easier to find Snook.

The Sheepshead are absoulutely on fire right now, and can be caught mainly on barnacles.  Barnacles are an awsome bait for Sheepshead because it is extremely easy to find, and harvest, and chum.  Simply scrape a piling with a paint scraper of other flat surface and collect the barnacels in a bucket near the water.  Be sure to let a few barnacles fall into the water for chum.  Just put the hook through the barnacle, and fish it as close the the piling or structure as you can.

Trout can be found on the flats around oyster beds, and in shallow pot holes. My favorite bait for them right now is a Mission Fishin gold jig head (1/4 oz.) on an exude gold dart. This bait will not only drive the trout nuts, but you can catch almost anything on this lure.

The snook are slowly coming out of "Lock Jaw" and we are starting to see more of them in the canals.  Most the Snook right now are going to be found around marinas, small canals, and near the flats. They can also be found just about anywhere where warm water is flowing into the gulf.  Docklights are slowling starting to produce snook as well. The best bait for snook at this time is either a live shrimp on a 2/0 hook, or a D.O.A. shrimp. My favorite colors for snook around this time of year is either a glow in the dark color or clear with gold/silver specs. Fish these baits as slow as you possibly can, because the snook are still a bit lethargic and slow moving.

The Redfish are still being caught alot around the Ft. Desoto area around the flats, in the small inlets, and around oyster beds. The best bait for them right now, is a live shrimp, a greenback (If you can find a decent size), or the Exude Gold Dart or a Mission Fishin Jig Head.

Thats it for me, let me know what and how you guys are getting e'm.

Thanks for the report and the pics! That's a nice snook.

Haven't done the inshore stuff in far too long... maybe I'll work on some sheepshead this weekend.
