Location: Tampa Bay | Weather Makes For A Challenge

The winds of November ruled the fishing scene on the South Shore flats for much of the week. There was a hot bite on ladyfish and jack crevalle around the mouth of the Little Manatee River, which is getting a lot of traffic on the weekends. It has been quiet in the middle of the week.
I’m seeing a few pompano north of the river, but the bite has been slow. The few fish we’ve caught have been on pompano jigs. Pink has been the most productive color. Wednesday, I saw more fish than on any other day this week, but caught nothing. I did have one bump.
I drifted across the flats south of Apollo Beach on Monday, but it was windy and the water was murky. Normally I see a few redfish, even in poor conditions. They are usually too close to the boat to catch, but I didn’t see one. This flat is usually loaded with redfish this time of year, but they seem to be keeping to the flats south of the Little Manatee River so far.
Tuesday, it blew even harder, and one word can describe my outing on the bay with clients — miserable. What water there was on the flats was too rough to fish. We went into the Little Manatee River to get out of the wind, but we caught nothing — not even a catfish. Then the bottom dropped out of the thermometer on Wednesday morning, and that should keep the fish safe for a few days. The highest temperature forecast through Sunday is 70 degrees. Should be a good week to work on the boat.
