| Well with the Grouper closed we have had top find other species to tangle with. Before the last front we spent the day fishing for Jacks and Mangrove snapper with great success in depths of 120-140 feet of water. We were wrapping up the trip on the last spot of the day in 135 feet of water catching a few more Mangroves for the dinner table.
As we were stowing the rods for the ride in we saw a on the surface about 20 yards off the stern, the glistening sails of not one but two gulf sailfish. We quickly rigged two Shimano Saragosa spinning reels with a length of 50 lb. floro and a couple of 7/0 circle hooks.
I turned the boat so we would intercept them at an angle, making sure to keep the sun at out backs so we would not spook them. With two perfect casts we hooked both fish at the same time. Both fish exploded out of the water together and lit those reels up, grey-hounding away from the boat. we lost one of the fish about 30 seconds into the fight, due to the bait double hooking itself hiding the barb. We did manage to get the other to the boat, ending yet another perfect day on the water.
