Location: Pinellas Point | I just figured I'd throw this out there as many captains are not very well versed in SEO strategies and can be charged for things that may sound good but have no SEO value. That doesn't mean that they never did... just that they don't matter now.
If you're being charged for any of the following strategies/services please feel free to have your professional drop in so that the discussion can be aired publicly for everyone's benefit.
- Keyword Density: Keyword density as a ranking factor died years ago and has absolutely no impact on your search engine success.
- Meta Keywords: The meta keyword tag in the source code of your pages is ignored by search engines as a ranking factor.
- Meta Description: The meta description tag in the source code of your pages is entirely ignored by search engines as a ranking factor. It's good to have a well written, unique to the page, description as it is often used along with your title in search resutls but will not effect your ranking. It's also clear that duplicate meta descriptions send poor quality signals to search engines.
- Submitting Your Site to Search Engines: More than a waste of time, search engines will find your site from the links to it not because it's been submitted. It has absolutely no bearing on your search results.
- Optimal Word Count: There is no optimal word count for a page as it relates to search engine optimization.
- Removing Code Barriers: Search engines are famous for being able to plow through some seriously onerous code.... deeply nested tables/divisions, poor mark up, endless scripts, etc. Run your pages through a text browser, like lynx, and if the text is there it will spider fine.
- W3C Vaildation: Validating your code is good to ensure that it renders well in different browsers but has no impact on SEO.
This is in no way intended to be an exhaustive list, and I'll add others as they come to mind. ----- Bay Area Boat Ramps | Tampa Bay Dockside Dining | |
