Monte, Scott and I went out to make a day of it on Monday. The seas were great, 2 to 2 1/2, so we set out hoping to get some kings and grouper.

We limited on schoolies in about 20 minutes trolling hardware on #2 planers in about 35 foot. We probably would have had them in less time but one of the hooks was lost on one of the spoons. It was funny when we brought it up because we kept having to reset the planer but didn't have any hook ups on that side. Chalk that one up to Monte's maintenance program. "I've just gotta fix that sometime."

We spent the rest of the day chasing grouper. We tried a number of spots in 60-75 feet that I hadn't been to in a long time and found a good number of shorts along with two gags and a scamp that made it into the fish box. Monte and Scott kept tossing grunts into the cooler so though we didn't get as much as expected we still came home with a pretty good load of fish.

Jack, thanks for posting... I gotta tell ya, that was one of the most fun trips I've ever had. You two together are hilarious and you really know your stuff. I learned a lot, laughed my a$$ off, and brought home dinner along with the sun burn and sore back.

We smoked up those kings, broiled the grouper and did up the Monte's fried grunt nuggets. The food was a big hit and I made fish spread for ourselves and the neighbors with the rest of the kings.

Thanks again for a great trip!
