With the abundance of bait on the flats the macks are starting to move in the south shore. The bait the last few days have been on the smaller side but the fish have not seem to mind with a variety of species coming aboard Fins and Scales.

Tuesday afternoon I was joined by Harold Sr. and Jr. with his wife and 8 year old son from Columbus,Ohio. They wanted to have a fish fry while they were down and they were not disappointed with some slot size trout and some 2 to 3 pound macks.I only had to move twice as the bite stayed consistent with macks, trout and ladyfish and some large jack cravalle to 10 pounds. After breaking off a few times with the circle hooks from the macks a long shank hook did the trick and was able to land a few more.Any good current flow and deep grass seem to be holding macks and good numbers of trout.

Wednesday evening father and son Jan and Josh Peterson from Michigan was down for a few days to enjoy our 80 degree weather and was looking forward to boat a few fish as well.Fishing 2 to 4 ft depths on the grass just a short distance from my bait spot we were able to boat snook, trout, ladyfish and some nice macks. The snook have really started to move in large numbers on the flats and outside passes were the bait is located. We also fished a few docks lights and Josh was on fire landing about every snook with his dad getting the inshore slam with a red. This weekend cold front hopefully will not move the fish much as the action is continuing to get better.

Also I had the opportunity to take Joe Stampley(guy on cap mel front page) on a trip a few years back with his stepson Ken.He was a joy to have on the boat and not a bad angler either.

Thanks for the report captain, sounds like some great trips and quite a variety of species. It's good to hear that the bait is back on the flats, we went out last weekend and didn't see any around Pinellas Point. This weekend isn't looking too good with the wind but I might have to give it a go inshore just to check out the bait situation.

Thanks again, Scott
