I spend a lot of time scouting. Even if i don't have a charter I really enjoy just going out looking to see what kind of new stuff I can find. I did just that on Thursday. I bounced around the bay and actually spent some time looking for new bottom structure that may hold some fish. Honestly I didn't have any great success but I did learn where NOT to look. I also spent some time looking for a few snook with only slim results. But again I learned where not to look, for now any way. Always a learning experience.
Today I had a charter. I knew I could put them on fish as the tide was just how I like it for red fishing. VERY HIGH! And I have been on them for the last couple of weeks. Bob has hired me in the past and today I had the pleasure of meeting his brother Jeff.. Peas in a pod I would call them has they are both great guys.
Bob enjoys going along to catch bait so it was an early morning start. After baiting up I took them to my high water spot. Close to the groves with some oyster bars and deeper drop offs. First bait in the water and Jeff was on. Jeff had never caught a red fish and was impressed with the way it fought. After the fish peeled off about 60 or 70 yards of line Jeff put the pressure on him and boated a nice 33 incher. The bite lasted about an hour(minor feed time) and after they caught and released over 20 fish they had sore arms and the fish had sore lips. I then took them to put a few grocery's in the cooler. It took them a little while to get the hang of my style of Snapper fishing but did manage to put 8 nice ones in the box. They ranged in size from 14 to 18". They also picked up a nice trout.
We did make a couple of stops in between bites that did not produce. Here is a shot of Jeff and his red with proud brother Bob.
