November is a great time to slow troll rivers and canals at night for snook. With water temperatures dropping and the daylight hours getting shorter, snook are looking for their winter homes. Snook will travel up the rivers and into deep water canal systems looking for a safe place to feed and hide from the cold winter fronts. In rivers snook will travel all the way into the fresh water. You may catch a snook on one cast and a largemouth bass on another.
Tips: One of the best ways to catch snook is to slow troll with sinking-type crank bait or live shiner. I use my trolling motor to move up and down the river. If you don't have a trolling motor you can use a gas motor, but go as slowly as you can. Look for deep holes and the outside bends of the river. I like to fish the low tides, as the low water makes it easier to get your bait to the bottom.
Spots: The Anclote and Cotee Rivers are productive this time of the year, but they can be targeted from any river on the West Coast as far north as Crystal River. Some good canal systems are Gulf Harbors, West Port and Hernando Beach. This method works best at night, but it can also be productive during the daylight hours.
