Today was a 6 hr. trip in search of some more Amber-Jack (since they are one of the only things open to harvest right now).
As we powered up the Yanmar diesel leaving John's Pass I noticed the weather man finally got one right, as the seas were 1-2 ft. About 1 hr and 15 min. later we found ourselves hovering over a nice little wreck sitting in about 100 feet of water. The Furuno lit up with a great show of fish stacked up about 60 feet off the bottom.
As everyone was getting their sea legs, I dropped the old trusty Spro jig to the bottom, threw over the bail and started running the jig back toward the boat. About 4 seconds into the retrieve the rod folded and the first fish was on. What continued for the next 1 and a half hours was double and triple headers, before my guests screamed uncle.
The jacks were ranging in the 15-30 lb. range and were quite active, even in the dirty water.
The crew was spent quickly and was ready to go home already. They were more than happy as they thought we would catch one or two fish during the trip. On the way in I wanted to make a few stops in some of the shallower water for some catch and release Grouper fishing. The reply was "Do they fight hard" answer "Yes" the reply was "No way, my arms and back are on fire and I don't want any more".
So, to the east we go in seas less than 1 ft. now, cruising at 27 knots, in the brick early afternoon air.

Get out there guys, the Jacks are stacked on everything outside of 90 ft. and are ready to dish out some pain. Good Luck
