Every April Grant hires me to take Jarrett and him out fishing along with other trips during the year but April is a tradition for the past 5 years. I taught Jarrett to cast and fish at 5yrs old and he has loved it ever since, except for a bad experience on a party boat(rough seas). Jarrett has slammed more times at 9yrs old with many multiple slams on a single trip that I have lost count.
I remember the first time I took him out he had natural athletic ability at 5yrs old and he was casting pretty good on that first trip. He was infatuated with the scaled sardines and kept playing with the bait. Even though he was catching Snook, Trout and Reds, the bait was just as interesting to him. Ive watched him grow and get better at casting. On this last trip he made a beautiful cast about 50 feet and placed the bait exactly where I told him and he was hooked up in 3-2-1 fish on. I felt proud to have been a part of this great fishing experience being passed on to a younger fisherman.

The trip went well. I had told Grant that I had shifted gears for awhile to give the snook a break and that I have been targeting Redfish lately and he said that was great.

We arrived at the area and trolled until I spotted some reds. I quietly positioned the boat and we were ready to fish. The third cast out and Grant gets a red and the ice is broke. Then Jarrett gets a red for himself and they both have the skunk off. The reds moved off so we started working a grass flat for trout since Grant loves to eat trout. Sure enough they are there and in good size. We lost a trout that was the biggest I have seen in awhile 26-28" which stunned Jarrett when he seen it and the line went slack and one head shake she was gone, But Jarrett came back and got his Dad a nice 19" keeper. That was another learning experience for the young fisherman.

We then went in search of more reds and we got into them pretty good with Grant and Jarrett catching 8 more then a sweet Snook comes to the boat but the red bite died out. So we made a 15 minute run to a oyster bar with a nice drop off and we picked up 5 more reds and Grant took one of those home for supper.

The Tally
15 Reds
5  Trout
1 Snook

This was in the Gandy area and the fish were caught on shrimp and cut bait.

Grant was being camera shy but here are some pics of Jarret
