With the beginning of May now upon us, the waters of Tampa Bay and surrounding areas are heating up quickly and so is the fishing! Bait is easy to come by and can be found on many of the grass flats or structure such as bridges. Tarpon are on everybodys' mind. We are seeing and catching more every day. The snook are in their spring areas and more than willing to chew. By the end of the month they should be easy to target along the beaches. Redfish are pretty much everywhere and hungry as well. As the water temps rise, the early morning will be the best time to target the reds.
Spanish mackerel can be found from the mouth of Tampa Bay all the way up to the Gandy bridge. The beaches are also holding good numbers of spanish macks and the pompano are makinge their showing when the water is clear.
Other mentionables include; cobia starting to show around markers, kingfish can still be had around the Skyway out to Egmont Key and the inshore grouper bite is warming up. With all this going on, it is only a matter of days now before everthing goes off here in the Tampa Bay area. Get your gear ready and GO FISHING!
