Sorry for the lack of activity here guys but I'm having some major issues with my boat right about now.

2 days ago my custom dry box arrived and I was really excited to go and use it out on the water.  So I put it in and figured I would take my boat out the next day and get on some really good snook and tarpon.  So me and a couple friends loaded up the boat and warmed up the motor to make sure everything was running smoothly.

We could not get the thing to start.  We pulled and pulled and pumped the ball and pumped the ball and for some reason it wouldn't take any gas.  Finally we figured the problem was that the tank was not pressurizing.  So I grabbed my spare tank and switched the fuel into the spare.  Well this one was definatly pumping the gas.  In fact we ended up flooding it (Or so we thought).  So we pulled the spark plugs and cranked it to get all the excess gas out of the cylinders.  Still no start. So we pulled the plugs back out again and let it sit and air dry for about 20 minutes.  Still no start.

We kept trying and what we managed to do was pull the cord out and the spring bent out of proportion and out of the casing so now we have fix the pull cord.  So we spent a good hour trying to fix the pull cord.  The problem is that we had fixed the thing before and its just so bent up from being used over the years and fixed back up by previous owners, that it is just bent beyond fixability.  We ended up ghetto rigging it and breaking it and re-fixing it multiple times.  Then the actual rope on the pull cord broke.  By then I was just so upset with the thing that I was just like, "Forget it".  So we called it a day and decided not to go out on the boat and to let the motor air out for a day.

So the next day we worked on it again.  We replaced the broken rope with some new rope and tryed again.  We could not get the thing to start no mater what.  Even using a cord on the fly wheel and over passing the pull cord would not get the thing to start. So while we were taking the pull cord assembly back out the motor we managed to snap part of the carburetor in half.

Great.  So now not only is the pull cord broken and the motor wont start for some reason, but now I have to buy a new carburetor as well. Its gonna cost lord knows how much to take it to the shop, at least 75 - 80 bucks for a new pull cord assembly, and I have no idea how much for a new carburetor.  Well guys I'm broke and cant get a job until after summer so basically I'm screwed and out of a boat for at least 3 or 4 months.  So I wont be posting any really interesting storys of gong out on the boat anymore since all ill be doing is fishing from land for awhile.

Oh and on top of all this the wood pieces on my trailer are rotting so I have to replace those too.  I guess the saying about owning a boat is true.  The two happiest days of owning your boat are when you buy it and sell it.  Well thats it for me guys.  Any tips or suggestions would help if you have any. Thanks. Im out.

Shallowminded, I'm really sorry to hear that but I can sure empathize. Last summer I was without my boat for almost 8 weeks waiting on a part. I have an older engine Yamaha 200 and the specific model/part needed was only manufactured for about two years so you just couldn't buy it. The part itself had to be manufactured from scratch somewhere in North Carolina.... man it was tough.

What got me through though was a couple of buddy's with boats and a lot of wading. It wasn't fun while it was going on but afterwards I realized that I got to know my flats a lot better and a good number of things that don't work in fishing them. (smiley here)

As far as tips/suggestions... how about having your buddy's kick in for the repairs and you can pay them back by providing the gas for the rest of the summer? Fish on friends boats until you can get the cash to fix yours. Get to know a local captain and see if he'll let you mate on a couple of trips in exchange for a hook up with his mechanic or some fishing time on his boat.... hmmm? I'll be thinking about it. One thing you should do first is to get a quote so that you know exactly what you're looking at for expenses and keep your eye on the classifieds.

Boat/motor repairs are expensive... I like the B.O.A.T. acronym... Bring On Another Thousand. In the end, I'm sure that it will work out, and you'll catch your share whether it's from land, someone elses boat or your own. Let us know how you do, both with the fishing and the engine repairs.
