Went out with John this morning and had a great time catching nothing. Actually, there were a few lizards, a small red and the biggest damned pinfish in history. John learned that a medum sized ray looks like a big a$$ flounder without polarized sun glasses, and I learned that you can spend the better part of a day in less than a foot of water and not be waiting for high tide or Sea Tow (smiley here).
We spent the day exploring the channels through the mangroves around Whedon Island and Riveara Bay. I kept having a song from Mofro running through my head. You can hear a clip here (opens Quick Time on your machine, it won't play if it's not installed). I've pasted pieces of lyrics below.
"With concrete and steal we pave... a road to hell on a land we've killed so take a good look and remember it now... cuz one day ya gonna wake up and find it gone"
"It's like watchin' someone you love die slow... Yeah they're killin' her one piece at a time I know some fools who think I should let go... but they never seen Florida through my eyes"
"Florida I know you're out ther hidin' from me... you get harder and harder to find Everyday she keeps slippin' away.... Florida please don't fade on me now"
Thanks Captain, we were rather looking forward to a day like you had with ABS. We kept envisioning all of the fish around the next corner.
Like you said though... it was a great day to be on the water, and we've got a more than a couple of really nice looking spots to focus on next time out.
