Here's a link to a great site for learning HTML. It was originally written by Dr. Joe Burns, a college professor who taught web design in notepad. He sold the site some time ago and is no longer involved in it's operation but most of his contributions are still there.

It will take you through "primers" on every aspect of building a site in HTML. I cut my HTML teeth on that site many years ago and it's still a great resource. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/
