Location: St. Petersburg | Hey guys my favorite targeted species this month will be snook! They are slaying bait up and down every beach. The greenbacks are THICK! The small Jacks, Mackerel and Ladyfish are also taking avantage of this stackage of bait and are balling them up to the point where the bait is jumping onto shore! But back to the snook, my bait of choice will be something that stands out from the rest of the green backs while still mimicing a scared baitfish and i will go with something artifical like a 1/4 oz. Jig head on a small DOA CAL soft body, a DOA Terror Eyez, or my favorite, a Spro Bucktail. I got a small 24 incher off of the beach today and saw at least 4 or 5 more. I also got about a million ladyfish, alot of small jacks and a pretty nice 20 inch mackerel. Another great fish that is starting to heat up around the tampa bay area is the Trout. The trout fishing is getting awsome and i have caught a few the past week or so on the flats and even on the beach. The best bait for them is a large live greenback, one that will stand out from the others. The mangrove snapper bite is still on and you can catch them on everything from Shrimp, to baitfish, to squid they are eating everything and the biggerones are starting to show themselfs more than the small ones. They can be caught on just about any structure as i said in my last report. So if you get a chance, head on out to your local honey hole, beach, or flat and go get em guys! | |
