Location: Pinellas Point | I don't have much experience with snapper other than lucky catches when seeking other species (offshore for grouper or inshore for sheepshead). They're tasty little critters so it would be nice to be able to successfully target them. I did dig up a couple of articles here (originally from the St. Pete Times and Tampa Tribune respectively). Jay Mastry - Furious Snapper Bite in 40-50' Jay Mastry - Mango's Between The Skyway & Egmont Frank Sargeant - Outsmart Snapper & Sheepshead Sorry I can't be of more help... hopefully someone else will chime in but if not let us know what you learn while out there. Location: St. Petersburg | 15 lb braid, 20 lb mono, number 1 to 1/0 hooks. Feel for every little tap. Make sure you have a very sensaive rod with some decent backbone to it. Use pieces of shrimp, to whole shrimp depending on how big of snapper your going for you can also use greenbacks. If your fishing where theres some pretty substancial current, use a split shot, its important to fish close to the structure. | |
